Dr David Musson is a newly appointed Senior Lecturer in the Department of Nutrition. David joins from the School of Medicine where he was a Senior Research Fellow and the inaugural recipient of the Auckland Medical Research Foundation Senior Research Fellowship.

His research to date has focused on understanding tendon disease progression through in vitro and in vivo study. The research has a specific interest in understanding the biochemical link between increased fat mass and tendon disease, understanding tendon and immune cell response to the degenerative tendon matrix microenvironment, and the role of small leucine-rich proteoglycans in tendon fibrosis and healing. Other project interests involve the epidemiology of tendon disease, age-related changes in bone and tendon, and muscle-tendon-bone communication.
