Message from Head of School

Kia ora koutou

Reading through the accumulated items in the School Newsletter it is clearly evident that 2019 has been another successful year for the School of Medical Sciences. Our staff and students have excelled across the domains of research teaching and leadership as is shown by the number of awards, research grants and peer esteem that was generated.

This year saw the implementation of the Technical Services Review, which while stressful like most change process, has improved the career progression for our highly valued technical staff.

Our first cohort of Undergraduate Medical Imaging Students were enrolled in 2019, and I commend the Medical Imaging Team for their efforts in making this programme a reality.

2019 marked the retirement of long serving staff members Hilary Holloway (Anatomy and BIRU) and Professor Bill Wilson (ACSRC), plus the departure of our excellent School Accountant Emi Barlow.

At the end of the year we have seen a number of academic staff recognized by the University for their performance through the academic promotion process. While I congratulate all staff who were promoted, I would especially like congratulate the School’s newest Professor’s: Bob Anderson, Alan Davidson and Clare Wall.

So as the end of the year rapidly approaches, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your contributions to the School’s success and to wish you and your whānau a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Enjoy the summer break and I look forward to see you refreshed, relaxed and ready to tackle 2020.
