Congratulations to the team behind a successful application to the Strategic Research Initiatives Fund to create the University of Auckland Mass Spectrometry Hub. Coordinated by Dr Gus Grey (Physiology), Dr Liz McKenzie, Dr Frederik Pruijn, Prof Martin Kussmann, Prof Mark Gahegan and Prof Ant Poole were awarded the three-year $600,000 grant which will fund 1.4 staff to work on mass spectrometry data analysis pipelines and virtual labs, as well as assembling a strong online platform with supporting information, contacts and resources. The initiative includes researchers and technical specialists from Liggins, FoS, FMHS, Engineering, Centre for e-Research, and the Bioinformatics Institute.

It also includes small analytical grants for researchers who want to branch out into mass spectrometry and metabolomics, travel grants for those who want to attend mass spectrometry conferences or training, and funding for the mass spectrometry software Progenesis and the latest NIST/Wiley mass spectral databases.
