Goodman L, Baddeley D, Ambroziak W, Waites CL, Garner CC, Soeller C, Montgomery JM, recently published a paper entitled ‘N-terminal SAP97 isoforms differentially regulate presynaptic structure and postsynaptic surface pools of AMPA receptors’

This manuscript has used their super resolution dSTORM capabilities to show how different synaptic proteins significantly alter the ultrastructure of synapses in the hippocampus. They were chosen for a cover image (Image entitled ‘GFP outline”‘). The other image shows synapse proteins on either side of synapses in the brain at super resolution (Homer + Bassoon).

Gordon Rewcastle, Sharada Kolekar, Christina Buchanan, Swarna Gamage, Anna Giddens, Jackie Kendall , Woo-Jeong Lee, Bill Denny, Peter Shepherd and Stephen Jamieson have published a paper entitled “Biological characterization of SN32976, a selective inhibitor of PI3K and mTOR with preferential activity to PI3Kα, in comparison to established pan PI3K inhibitors” in Oncotarget (IF = 5.2)

This paper details the biological characterisation of the anticancer drug SN32976 that was developed at the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre. SN32976 is an inhibitor of the enzyme PI3K that is frequently dysregulated in cancer. In the paper, we describe the anticancer activity of SN32976 in comparison to a number of clinically-evaluated PI3K inhibitors. A close analogue of SN32976, PWT-33597, was taken forward by Pathway Therapeutics into phase I clinical trials.
