Medical Imaging is pleased to welcome new staff members who have joined the team as Professional Teaching Fellows (PTFs) who will ensure that the continuous development and delivery of the PGDipHSc (Cardiac Ultrasound) Programme is successful.
Allanah Harrington has worked in the Cardiac Sonography profession for over 7 years, in both the public and private sectors. She is an advocate for the Cardiac Sonography profession and is devoted to improving Māori health outcomes, embedding cultural safety and increasing Māori in the healthcare workforce.
Her interests include Cardiology, Neuroscience and Clinical Research, with a focus on indigenous health. She has a Master’s degree in Clinical Neuroscience from the University Otago. Her work as the Māori Clinical Researcher in the Health Research Council study established the appropriateness of echocardiographic reference ranges in Māori and Pacific New Zealanders. Allanah has previous experience lecturing and teaching online courses. She currently is the Co-chair of the Māori Advisory Board for the MRTB. She is passionate about creating a positive and interesting space for students to learn and develop into excellent Cardiac Sonographers in Aotearoa.
Lauren McCann is a paediatric cardiac sonographer and team educator at Starship Hospital (Auckland). She will be responsible for the development and delivery of the congenital related aspects of the programme and will also contribute to the other courses of the programme.
Ashley Mattson initially joined the team in August 2023 to develop the new PGDipHSc [Cardiac Ultrasound] Programme in readiness for 2024 delivery. She has now been appointed for a further 3 years to continue with this project. Ashley is a cardiac physiologist (specialty in cardiac sonography) and educator from Vancouver Island (Canada) via Australia. She has developed curriculum for the British Columbia Institute of Technology, a bedside echocardiography course for the College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australian and New Zealand trainees at the Royal Hobart Hospital. She has worked extensively with cardiology registrars and student sonographers. Ashley is very enthusiastic about creating and delivering a programme that will give students the skills and knowledge to become the next generation of expert cardiac sonographers.
