The Biomedical Science Honours Symposium was held on 25 October 2023. The symposium was a day of research presentations by students in the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) (BBiomedSc Hon) programme. It is intended to acknowledge the efforts and success of students in this research-led postgraduate degree.
Twelve students presented, and the prize winners for best presentations were Hannah Caulton, Kate Pennycuick, Stian Thomson. Professor Paul Donaldson, Head of School of Medical Sciences attended the prizegiving and addressed the students.
Hannah Caulton is from the School of Medical Sciences. Her presentation was titled ‘Sweet pressure and the brain: Improving brain blood flow regulation in diabetes and hypertension’. She is supervised by Dr Fiona McBryde and Dr Tonja Emans.
Kate Pennycuick is from the School of Biological Sciences. Her presentation was titled ‘Evaluating RNase HI as a drug target in Neisseria gonorrhoeae’. She is supervised by Associate Professor Shaun Lott and Dr Stephanie Dawes.
Stian Thomson is from the School of Medical Sciences. His presentation was titled ‘Whispers of the Wanderer: Investigating Cardiac Vagal Transduction in Conscious Sheep’. He is supervised by Dr Julia Shanks and Associate Professor Rohit Ramchandra.
