Dr Rohit Ramchandra and colleagues have been awarded the Research Excellence Medal from the University of Auckland. This award is intended to recognize individuals and teams at the University who have made an outstanding contribution to a discipline or field through exceptional research. The award was made on behalf of a large team behind the work and includes Dr. Julia Shanks and Professor Julian Paton as named investigators.
The team has discovered that when heart rate variability is restored using a novel pacemaker, heart pumping improved by 20%; this is double that seen with conventional pacemakers . Their discovery that a better natural way to pace the heart reverses heart failure may now assist the 82,000 people with heart failure in Aotearoa.
Congratulations on this achievement!
