Maggie Kalev-Zylinska, leader of the Blood and Cancer Biology Laboratory in the Department of Molecular Medicine and Pathology, gained $240,000 in funding from the Heart Research Institute (HRI) to investigate transcriptomic and proteomic signatures in platelet progenitors and platelets to identify key pathways of platelet and precursor hyperactivity. The work will be conducted in collaboration with Dr Freda Passam, leader of the Haematology Research Group at HRI/Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney.
Platelets are critical for the development of cardiovascular complications. This project will generate significant new knowledge about the mechanisms involved in platelet activation, with the potential to identify therapeutic targets to prevent thrombosis.
Congratulations, Maggie.
