Dr Carol Bussey from the department of Physiology is a new Research Fellow that has joined Professor Julian Paton’s lab. She is funded by a HRC project grant entitled, ‘A novel potential anti-arrhythmic target’.
Carol joins us from the Department of Physiology, at the University of Otago, Dunedin, where she most recently held a Heart Foundation research fellowship investigating the contribution of the autonomic nervous system to circadian heart rate regulation. She brings her experience in autonomic cardiac regulation to her current project uncovering the role of P2X3 ATP receptors in sympathetic control of the heart, and the potential for P2X3 inhibition to treat arrhythmias.
