Sarah-Jane Guild, Fiona McBryde, Rohit Ramchandra, Simon Malpas from the Cardio-vascular Autonomic Research Cluster of the Department of Physiology and PhD student Utkarsh Saxena from the Auckland Bioengineering Institute, published a paper entitled ‘Intracranial pressure influences the level of sympathetic tone’. The paper was published in the American Journal of Physiology – Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology.
It was recently selected for APSselect, a collection from the American Physiological Society that showcases some of the best recently published articles in physiological research. It is the first study to show that physiological elevations in intracranial pressure regulate renal sympathetic nerve activity in conscious animals.
