The Medical Imaging team is pleased to welcome Dr Ellen Woodcock, who is joining the team as a Professional Teaching Fellow in the PGDipHSc [Cardiac Ultrasound] Programme. Ellen has been helping (as a casual appointee) with the development and delivery of this programme before taking this role.

Ellen worked in Cardiology for almost 20 years, initially as a Clinical Cardiac Physiologist and then as a Cardiac Sonographer. She has a strong interest in education and has previously taught cardiac physiology and echocardiography to a wide range of health professionals, including trainee sonographers, clinical physiologists, advanced cardiology trainees, and users of point of care ultrasound (PoCUS).

Ellen is currently undertaking a post-doctoral research fellowship. Her research aims to create an evidence base to change policy/ guidelines to deliver best practices in echocardiography in NZ. This includes describing the current cardiac sonographer workforce, assessing variation in the access to echocardiography and exploring the clinical impact of applying ethnic-specific reference ranges.
