Dr Rajshri Roy, a member of the School of Medical Sciences, has received recognition as a recipient of the Change One Thing Challenge for 2023. This challenge acknowledges exceptional ideas that have a tangible impact on student learning experiences.
Rajshri’s innovative approach involved revamping a conventional and unvarying assignment in DIETETIC 708 into a dynamic learning experience that fosters student engagement, feedback, and assessment. Students work collaboratively in teams, experiment with a fad diet, and create a nutritional recipe that they share via digital content using social media and other multimedia technology.
By encouraging students to work in teams, this new approach promotes collaborative learning and communication. Additionally, the use of social media and multimedia technology allows for diverse and creative expression, while providing opportunities for feedback and assessment in real time.
This redesign of a traditional assignment has yielded remarkable results, with students expressing greater satisfaction with the overall learning experience. They appreciate the opportunity to experiment with a fad diet, develop a nutritional recipe, and share their work on social media with others using cooking videos and a podcast episode.
Rajshri’s success in the Change One Thing Challenge serves as a model for other educators seeking to enhance student learning experiences. Her approach demonstrates the potential of innovative and dynamic assignments to foster engagement, creativity, and feedback in students.
Congratulations Rajshri!
